This strand is reserved for experienced AVID Elective teachers and focuses on continuous improvement of the AVID Elective class through advanced implementation of WICOR® (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) methodologies and instructional practices that support all students. Participants will explore the AVID Anchor and Elective Standards and help students get to the “Why” of what they are learning, thereby developing their student agency. Participants will apply new coaching and language tools to the revised 10 Steps of the AVID Tutorial Process to increase the rigor of tutorials.
By completing this strand, participants will have the opportunity to receive a digital badge representing their learning experience. This strand requires all participants to have their own device or laptop that can connect to internet access. Participants must bring an acceptable device, power cord, and earbuds/headphones with them to the strand. If a district-issued device is being used, be sure to log in to the device on the district network before attending. Device software and web browser need to be up to date.
