This strand is designed for science teachers who are experienced with foundational AVID strategies and methodologies and are interested in achieving a better understanding of the rigor required to prepare students for challenging science courses and college. Participants will examine ways to engage students in interacting with and reflecting on content in order to develop and deepen knowledge through the use of digital and analog tools. The strand incorporates additional Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR®) strategies through intensive hands-on and mind-on activities that use the interactive notebook, focused note-taking, Socratic Seminars, the critical reading process, and technology resources to support rigorous instruction for all students.
This strand requires all participants to have their own device or laptop that can connect to the internet. Participants must bring an acceptable device, power cord, and earbuds/headphones with them to the strand. If a district-issued device is being used, be sure to log in to the device on the district network before attending. Device software and web browser need to be up to date.
