The Career and Technical Education: Developing Employability Skills Community of Practice engages middle and high school level career and technical educators and program directors as they support their students in developing the skills necessary for current and future success. Participants will consider what future readiness looks like for their students and explore how AVID Instructional strategies can be embedded to foster and nurture student success. Educators will learn how to actively engage students in developing professional skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and organization while supporting their long-term aspirations. Differentiated learning opportunities will allow participants to reflect on their specific practice and context while preparing all learners for a modern, global, competitive society. All strategies, digital activities, and digital tools experienced in this Community of Practice can be leveraged in face-to-face, blended, or virtual learning environments.
This Community of Practice requires all participants to have their own device or laptop that can connect to the internet. Participants must bring an acceptable device, power cord, and earbuds/headphones with them to the session. If a district-issued device is being used, be sure to log in to the device on the district network before attending. Device software and preferred web browsers (Chrome or Firefox) need to be up to date.
Three-day summer virtual professional learning event featuring real-time interaction with facilitators and peers nationwide in both a Community of Practice and a session illustrating ways to extend learning throughout the school year, engage in productive planning, and ignite inspiration campuswide. Plus, time is provided before or after virtual learning for individuals to further reflect or for sites and districts to host their own activities.
Four 3-hour professional learning modules through a virtual platform using videoconferencing provide a high-paced, interactive, dynamic learning experience while modeling engaging and rigorous instruction. There will also be opportunities to engage in One-to-One Collaborative Coaching.
