Digital badge Upon completion of professional learning, educators will have the opportunity to receive a digital badge representing their learning experience.

The AVID District Leadership 1 (ADL 1) Community of Practice is designed to engage new AVID District Directors who are beginning their learning journey. This first training will focus on understanding the roles and responsibilities of the District Director as well as understanding AVID’s mission, certification process, and data collection. District Directors will explore coaching for AVID implementation; Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR®) strategies; and AVID research-based resources. This learning experience prepares District Directors by blending WICOR with digital strategies to support sites in preparing students with the skills they need to be college- and career-ready. All strategies, digital activities, and digital tools experienced can be leveraged in face-to-face or virtual learning environments.

This Community of Practice requires all participants to have their own device or laptop that can connect to the internet. Participants must bring an acceptable device, power cord, and earbuds/headphones with them to the session. If a district-issued device is being used, be sure to log in to the device on the district network before attending. Device software and preferred web browsers (Chrome or Firefox) need to be up to date.

  • Acceptable devices include laptops, Chromebooks, Surface devices, iPads, and iPad Pros.
  • Unacceptable devices include mini iPads, Kindle or Galaxy tablets, and smartphones.


This learning experience is only for those who are designated as the new District Director on the district’s AVID contract.

Three-day professional learning through a virtual platform using videoconferencing provides a high-paced, interactive, dynamic learning experience while modeling engaging and rigorous instruction.
