The School Counselors Community of Practice helps elementary and secondary school counselors elevate their role by exploring the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework and its connection to school counseling. Participants will learn how to insist on rigor, dismantle obstacles, align actions, and passionately champion students’ aspirations. Participants will be immersed in strategies that empower them to support the AVID Elective classroom and nurture a pervasive college- and career-going culture throughout their school. This collaborative experience prepares counselors to actively contribute to the school Site Team. All strategies, digital activities, and digital tools experienced in this Community of Practice can be leveraged in face-to-face, blended, or virtual learning environments.
This Community of Practice requires all participants to have their own device or laptop that can connect to the internet. Participants must bring an acceptable device, power cord, and earbuds/headphones with them to the session. If a district-issued device is being used, be sure to log in to the device on the district network before attending. Device software and preferred web browsers (Chrome or Firefox) need to be up to date.
This learning experience is for new, contracted AVID member sites for the upcoming school year and new school counselors at existing sites.
Three-day summer virtual professional learning event featuring real-time interaction with facilitators and peers nationwide in both a Community of Practice and a session illustrating ways to extend learning throughout the school year, engage in productive planning, and ignite inspiration campuswide. Plus, time is provided before or after virtual learning for individuals to further reflect or for sites and districts to host their own activities.
Four 3-hour professional learning modules through a virtual platform using videoconferencing provide a high-paced, interactive, dynamic learning experience while modeling engaging and rigorous instruction. There will also be opportunities to engage in One-to-One Collaborative Coaching.
